Saturday.

Today we got up early to take care of the sheep because the chicken part of the farming operation was harvesting the meat birds and we wanted the sheep in place before that started. The days of summer vacation are drawing to an end, and although the opportunities for sleeping in are numbered, both girls jumped out of bed without complaint.
Our intention was to move the sheep to the smaller pasture, but after 20 minutes of pushing, pulling, lifting and coaxing the sheep half way across the big pasture, I decided that the grass was too wet so we ended up pushing, pulling, lifting and coaxing the sheep back into their pen and just gave them hay. Tomorrow we'll have to try to get them over to the small pen. I hope my back can manage. It's a much easier job with another adult.
Sister is the oldest of the remaining sheep and she does not want to be the leader. Jayda is still a baby, but she will eat out of our hands more readily than Sister. If we get new sheep I hope it will ease Sister back into a more comfortable role in the herd, and hopefully we will get one that is easier to lead! Sister was a rescue sheep so we'll never know her history. She was never as friendly as the other sheep but she was much more friendly than she is now. Maybe the stress of being sick and finding herself in her new role have put her on edge.
